Here is the link to the article by Daniel J. Levitin:

And here is a link to a NYtimes article which explains Williams syndrome:

  1. The New York Times article seemed to suggest that the mental effects of Williams Syndrome sometimes occur without being accompanied by the physical effects. Are there other parts of the syndrome that are lacking in some patients? Is it possible, for example, for someone to have high-functioning Williams Syndrome the way that it is possible to have high-functioning autism?

  2. I'm interested in a statement made earlier in the article concerning the subjects repetition of words: Is is possible that in those with Williams Syndrome the brain does in fact perceive sound more intensely thus leading to the methodical, almost rhythmic repetition of words or phrases? Perhaps their brains more quickly identify the sonic patterns in a word, rather than its symbolic meaning.

  3. These are very interesting articles! I find it odd that I've never heard of Williams Syndrome, and upon questioning a few friends and family members, that they had never heard of it either. Do you think that WS is less known simply because it affects a smaller amount of people (compared to those who are autistic or have down syndrome)?

  4. I was wondering what the 25 genes that are deleted in Williams code for? Are they involved in any other neurological disorders?

  5. I too had never heard about Williams syndrome and it made me wonder why it is not as well know as other disorders. In addition to the fact that it affects less people that autism I wonder if the fact that traits such as being outgoing and talkative are not necessarily seen as a negative, even when they are taken to the extreme as they are in Williams patients.
